As I said in the article, my dad (Carl Sigman) wrote .Enjoy Yourself." His cowriter was Herb Magidson.

The Specials also did a great version, based on Prince Buster's.

Hey, youngster, me heart don't an awful lot bleed for you (for my own age, see the two numbers I added to my sign-in-name) but if anyone around here has money to invest and wondering where to put it; figure out which part of Monster (Orwellian) Google decided to show me this particular post at this particular Orwellian Google Moment of my Personal Losing Battle with cybertech; send me your e-mail address, and I'll send you my entire collection (those that I can find out of the tall grasses) of misdirected golf balls. :-(

An excellent terse cogent review. This short review contains more usable info than in all the dozens of long-winded screaming emails against 'Citizen United' that I receive each week. This review contains the first brief credible presentation I have seen on both the what and the why of a proposed 28-th amendment.

As I see it Clements' proposed course of action is reasonable, but contains two mis-steps.

(1) First, under our federal system, each state is like a small nation, and there's no way a state shouldn't be able to charter a corporation. In fact, most of our cities and other jurisdictions are in theory corporations chartered by their states.

(2) Second, there's no reason why 'reforming electoral processes' to 'control the role of money' couldn't start now. The real problem here is that progressives and other would-be reformers have impoverished imaginations, and can't envision the most effective sort of reform: eliminating the need for any electoral processes altogether.

That sort of reform would address the real problem with business corporations (and the reason why we can't trust corporate-paid speech) - as indeed with our federal and state governments and with our other chartered corporations like local and other governments. Namely, all these entities are run as republican oligarchies. If they had to be real democracies (in the Athenian sense), no small group of officers - whether viewed as 'representatives' or 'executives' or 'judges' - would or could monopolize decision- making for any length of time at all.

With decision-making rotated frequently among different panels of randomly-chosen willing citizens (or of corporate employees and shareholders), there would be no need for choosing special decision-making officers by special expensive 'electoral processes' - let alone for worrying about spending limits to ensure non-corporate-dominance of the speech used to influence such processes.

You don't know what a straw man argument is. Look it up.

For you to claim that *the* reason for the Iraq war was WMDs is *known to be false*. The first paragraph of the joint resolution that authorized the use of force was about the liberation of Kuwait and enforcement of UN resolutions, and citing the cease fire agreement signed by Iraq.

It then goes on to list the many violations of the agreement... some of which were certainly true, others appear not to be. Nobody is disputing that WMDs were spun up to be a big deal, but the bottom line is that in many identified ways, the cease fire agreement was repeatedly violated...

We know of MANY violations of the cease fire agreement... you're fixated on WMD's. Fine. Good for you. Doesn't change the facts.

All authorities agree that Iraq violated the cease fire agreement... and that, is the end of that.

"But Saddam Hussein could end this crisis tomorrow simply by letting the weapons inspectors complete their mission. He made a solemn commitment to the international community to do that and to give up his weapons of mass destruction a long time ago now. One way or the other, we are determined to see that he makes good on his own promise...

[ ]

If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow by the knowledge that they can act with impunity, even in the face of a clear message from the United Nations Security Council and clear evidence of a weapons of mass destruction program. "

Lunatics and Cocktail Liberals

Can somebody please explain to me why the republicans are running neck and neck with the democratic party in most of the 50 states? The repubs are lizard people, they used to wear human skin but they don’t even do that anymore. The “gops” are running around in their lizard skin, going to debates looking like escaped crocks; what the hell is going on?

Here we have a party run by fruitcakes, and I don’t means a little “batty,” these folk are stone nuts, the only thing they want is power, they have all the money, now it is just, “Give me more power.” Rick Sanitorium almost won the gop-pie’s nomination for president. This man belongs in a straight jacket, not the White House! Please send me an e-mail and explain how this country is deciding who should be in the WH---I just don’t get it. To win elections you have to be on the side of the ladies, they have the majority of the vote you know. The Catholic Bishops are pissed at the gop-pies because of the budget that Paulie put out and the Mit just loves, it taxes the poor and exempts the rich-what a good way to win votes. I hear over and over from the progressives there are more of us than the *Rich Shits, so why would the RS want to piss off the majority. The other thing that I worry about when I an waiting for the #4 bus is what does this say about the party of Roosevelt? Mr. Democrat, you are running against well known lunatics, and you are losing in some places. What the hell? How can this be?? Could it be that your soul is also tied to the “Company Store?”

The Tea Party of republicans run around with signs saying: “Keep you hands off my Medicare,” “I want the constitution to rule” “No taxation without representation” “Obama is not a citizen” “No new taxes” “No activist judges.” They go on and on---well you idiots, Paulie wants to destroy your Medicare, read the constitution instead of waving it around, we need more taxes on the *RS and jobs, we are broke. For any republican or democrat to vote for their party in November, and they don’t have millions in bank accounts, is just plain insanity. You must love to be beaten by the rich. Can’t you see Sen. McConnell swimming in a swamp, he is a lizard, and Harry Reid will never stop the filibuster. Don’t call me a democrat, I am not one of those weenies. The data should show the democrats winning by 80 or 90%. The fact is, in some places they are losing, this is very scary for me, I feel like I am in one of those zombie movies.
Even the women in the party of cheney/bush are defective humans, bachmann, palin, and here in Portland, what is that lady’s name----victoria taft have something very wrong with them, they say the dumbest things in front of the cameras or on their shows, how does one get where they are? Do the people of the party of regan know that ron would not be allowed to run for president if they dug him up and tried. He would be called a heretic of Reganomics.

Why am I getting so many requests for financial help from people in the democratic party, don’t they know they are running against dingbats. We need to stop voting for the same criminals. If you think bush and that walking no heart cheney are war criminals, you’ve got to follow up with impeaching Obama and what’s his name, “bite me biden.” There is a video that will show you what we white folks have done to this wonderful country called “ Let Your Life Be A Friction To Stop The Machine.” Don’t respond unless you see this video first, it will make you wonder what we can do next.

Might we look at the possiblity of what the world would like without war, period. while visiting Costa Rica, I discovered that they don't have an army. Its simplistic to say we could do the same, and why not? Going in that direction, might we consider what it would it would look like, what it would take and how it could be accomplished?

As I understand the President in Costa Rica in 1949 disbanded the military and took the money going into that machine and put it toward healthcare and education. What a concept.
Most would say that's too idealistic, too "pie-in-the-sky," thnking. But, I ask - "Why not consider?"

We keep doing the same things and expecting different outcomes - when will we learn?

Nice little straw man you put up there regarding cease fire violations.

The rational for our invasion of Iraq had to do with non existent weapons of mass destruction, nonexistent mobile weapons labs and the laughable thjreat of "mushroom cl;ouds" appearing miraculously all over the USA and a totally sham connection between Saddam Hussein and Al- Qaeda, two entities that were sworn enemies of each other.

Through skillful use of oblique references in the same paparagraph and "inadvertantly" misusing the names of Hussein and Bin Laden, the heroically uninformed American public was purposelly led into a totally unnecessary and unproductive war that thas done nothing but empower Iran, debilitate our military and harm our economy.

Regarding Libya, I agree, we had no business there; it's just another example of how war has been made easy in our crumblinmg empire; no taxes and let let our all volunteer army do the fighting while we fill the malls buying crap made in The People's Republic of China.

Long before Maddow was born, there were many (like Hayden and, in my own small way, me) who protested Vietnam. But, Maddow was late in coming to the protest against Gulf I an II. And then it was a revelation that Bush II lied. And the media believed him. Not everybody can be at the forefront of a movement, but given her medium her voice carries larger than most of ours. But it doesn't mean that she's become a leader--when so many came before her. Hayden is right about her having a fawning love of military conquests over native Americans and others that were in way of our manifest destiny. She's a good TV personality, and I like tlo watch her. But she really isn't in the trenches.
