Gone Broke, Behind Enemy Lines
gone broke
$5 bucket of chicken crap
pimped out on the dead screen
then that $5.99 pizza pie,
wedge of chemical sludge,
a billionaire’s glee
with quarterbacks jabbering
on and on, maiming truth in the glory
and grace
of the almighty
dollar
and the pencil thin movie star
whoring for the credit card thieves
to pay for his new Manhattan penthouse
pad
look at him grinning
grinning
selling everything,
everything sold, all sold including you and me
here in the rat’s nest of lost reason,
in this hive of soulless hunger

It’s only a movie, of course.
The smiling mask mocking
the dictator and his security
apparatus. Revenge and
justice, the fist of the injured,
the put upon, put down,
and put out striking blows
against the madness of power.
It’s only a movie, of course,
but if you haven’t seen it, you
might want to check it out.
Behind Enemy Lines
Nothing new here: the same
deceit, betrayal and greed that
poisoned the first wells, turning
vision to rust and ruin. Fists
and canons shattering bleak
nights, breaking a confused
daylight as the next liar steps to
the microphone, a monster with
a deadly smile and casual wave.
