a glamorous unraveling
while the movie
star’s wedding
party waited
to disembark
from a fleet
of sleek, custom
made crafts
bobbing above
the shit-filled
canals of Venice,
as legions of
homeless lined
up for a fist
full of crumbs
not far from
Beverly Hills,
one can easily
be forgiven
the high-pitched
screams issuing
forth from one’s
frantic mouth.

The high black clouds
gathering at the border,

The roar of angry winds
crowding the streets,
The cries of people bent
by cold intentions,
The indifferent army of
power marching to war.
pet people
love a good
steak, medium
rare with a glass
of deep dark
red wine or
chicken baked
in rosemary
sauce
accompanied
by a tart white
wine or ribs
barbecued
by the pool,
washed down
with a bold,
aged whiskey
or an ice cold
beer. but they
don’t roast
or sauté cat
or dog. those
creatures
caught a break.
it really is a
funny world,
after all.
