Vote for Sale

With the hundreds of millions of dollars
ladled into the smooth-skinned hands
of those vipers who rule and seek to rule

our democratic, fascist state every
election cycle, I offer a new and, I think
quite modestly, revolutionary approach

to further participation in this gruesome
self-delusion we call America. We should
henceforth declare a person’s vote to be

a commodity and like any other commodity,
subject to the forces of peace and tranquility
the savage capitalist system so lovingly

provides us. Therefore, when they knock on
the door next time, asking me to please vote
for, say Hillary, I will inform the earnest,

usually young, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed
campaign worker that my Presidential Vote
will cost $100,000. And if another crook,

I mean candidate, wants to offer more; let
the bidding begin!! Why should we be any
less corrupt than those who lead us?

Drop the Hammer: Don’t Vote

Yank the rug out from under them.
Let them fall, let them feel winds
of retribution hissing over
corrupt hearts. Let them beg

and threaten like they always do,
so you’ll trudge into booths, bent
and broken like prisoners shuffling
into cells, terrified into voting because

the others would be unimaginably
worse but after all these years of fire
and theft you know there is no worse,
there is only more of the same,

more wretchedness heaped on top
of endless slaughter everywhere.
Turn your backs on their cooing
lies, the pictures of horror they paint.

Decades of murder, fraud and misery
is what they wrought, while majestically
promising sunlight upon that peaceful
hill. Instead, down dark roads

came dead children, cities burning,
lives looted, vicious dishonesty
and the stench of cynical truth.
Bring them down; let them all fall!

Show them what power old hands
still hold. Bring down the killers
grinning ear to ear, holding peace
prizes, giving grand speeches

in great halls about justice, dignity,
hope, new dawns and the rest
of the simpering claptrap designed
to push you into the polls,

anxious and afraid. There isn’t
much time left for you with
the white hair, sagging faces
and sinking bank accounts.

No revolution ever came, no
insurrection burned the palaces
but still you can make capital’s
errand boys and girls pay.

Deny them power, the lush
life of handouts and bribes.
Drop the hammer; Don’t vote.
After all, this is a democracy, isn’t it?
